Chapter 18. Technologies used for commun... > Experience with virtual operations

Experience with virtual operations

Team members who are experienced with virtual operations generally do not require technologies that offer a personal connection or information richness and permanence. Seasoned members of virtual teams are accustomed to performing work independently, without guidance or communication. For those team members, using e-mail or fax machines is the preferred way to communicate with others.

Depending on the experience of the members serving on a virtual team, face-to-face meetings and videoconferences might not be necessary. The type of technology used to communicate depends on the team members’ level of experience and their ability to function without social presence or information richness.
