1: There once lived six blind men in a village. One day, an elephant came to the village. The blind men didn’t know what an elephant looked like. So, they decided to go and touch the animal. Excitedly, they went to the place where the elephant was resting, and each of them touched the elephant.

“Hey, the elephant is like a pillar,” said the first man, who touched the leg of the elephant.

“Oh, no! It’s like a rope,” said the second man, who touched the tail.

“Both of you are wrong! It’s like a thick branch of a tree,” said the third man, who touched the trunk of the elephant.

“It’s like a big fan,” said the fourth man, who touched the ear of the elephant.

“It’s like a huge wall,” said the fifth man, who touched the belly of the elephant.

“It’s like a solid pipe,” said the sixth man, who touched the tusk of the elephant.

They begin to argue about the appearance of the elephant, and each of them declares that he is right. A wise man passing by overhears the quarrel. He turns to them and asks, “What’s the matter?” One of the blind men replies, “We cannot agree on what the elephant looks like.” Each of them tells the wise man what he thinks about the elephant. The wise man replies, “Each of you has a different perspective on the elephant, but the mental picture that you have is incomplete. Each of you is only partially right.” Finally, the blind men understand and stop arguing.
