Cultural considerations

Virtual teams must overcome many cultural considerations that are not relevant to the work of a traditional team. By design, virtual teams include people from various locations, companies, functions, and cultures. Although these differences can become a virtual team’s greatest asset, there might be some initial challenges to overcome. Organizations and team members should consider these obstacles when establishing the foundation for a virtual team:

  • Language barriers

  • Lack of a shared history

  • Differing business practices

  • Differing business ethics
