Chapter 8. Effectiveness > Opportunity to contribute

Opportunity to contribute

Contributing to a virtual meeting can be difficult, especially if the meeting’s scope lies outside of a team member’s expertise or select team members dominate a meeting’s discussion. However, team members can help each other contribute to a meeting by applying the following guidelines:

  • Suggest the team use technologies with anonymity features for brainstorming and voting.

  • Suggest the team break into subgroups with leaders appointed for each subgroup.

  • Encourage each other to send in opinions prior to the meeting so that they can be included in the meeting’s agenda.

  • Schedule ample time for the meeting; suggest scheduling two sessions if necessary.

  • Respect the value of each other’s opinions and beliefs and never take personally anything said during the meeting.
