Norms

Team norms represent the members’ ideas about what types of behavior are appropriate or inappropriate in a virtual-team setting, and they are usually formed as the team develops. In addition, norms express the value system of a team and how team members are expected to conduct themselves within this value system.

Norms are rarely enforced by an authority figure; instead, they are imposed by the team members themselves. Understanding the team norms allows members to feel like they are “part of the group.” Therefore, members follow the norms without enforcement to reflect the accepted values of the team.
