Part V: Communication > Technologies used for communication

Chapter 18. Technologies used for communication

Explanation

Most communication among virtual team members requires the use of a technological device. Consequently, team members must select technologies that complement a meeting’s purpose. In many instances, virtual teams must use multiple communication technologies to ensure that a meeting is successful. For example, detailed audio conferences require an agenda, so team members must make sure each member receives an agenda before the meeting, either by sending it via e-mail or faxing it to remote locations. If team members do not receive an agenda prior to the meeting, they might become confused and choose not to participate in the discussion. It is important that all team members are aware of the types of communication technologies available and advocate the use of technologies that work best in a given situation.
