Exercises

1: In the following scenario, Jennifer, a project manager, and John, a project team member, are seated in the conference room.

Jennifer: So, we’ve agreed that our goal is to put Accutron into development. Is that correct?

John: Yes, I think there’s a need for Accutron, but I’m worried about it coming out of a cross-departmental project team. What’s good enough by marketing standards might not be good enough by government standards.

Jennifer: That’s a good point. Let’s determine our standards now so that there aren’t any questions down the line.

What is the pitfall in the conversation?

How could this pitfall be eliminated?

2: You are a project leader. Read each statement below and identify the pitfall in the statement.

Why am I the only one burdened with all the extra and unplanned work?

I cannot change my schedule and accept a deadline that is five days earlier than the planned date at this late date!

Why do we need to hear what Marketing thinks about the project? We are meeting all the goals and they only want to change things.
