Chapter 8. Unit summary: Understanding team fundamentals

Topic A In this unit, you learned how to organize teams of different categories such as project teams, committees, and quality circles depending on type and purpose of project. You also learned the difference between traditional teams and self-directed work teams (SDWTs). In addition, you learned what to consider when determining team size and life cycle. You also learned about the importance of team members.
Topic B Next, you learned the roles and responsibilities of a team member for an efficient and effective team, as well as the importance of monitoring team members’ progress. You also learned that being aware of the four stages of team-building—forming, storming, norming, and conforming—can help to relieve anxiety within the team.
Topic C Then, you learned about how to define effective goals by using the SMART acronym. You learned that defining effective team goals helps team members to understand the significance of their work. You also learned the importance of and how to give constructive feedback, as well as how to anticipate and deal with team problems.
Topic D Finally, you learned about different personality types that can be present within a team. You also learned how to resolve conflicts within a team when they arise.
