Exercises

1: In the following scene, Sarah (employee) and Jennifer (employee) are at the water cooler. They are making small talk.

Sarah:(Animated as she retells a story) I remember once I was on a team with over 20 people. It was awful. Nothing got accomplished and some people couldn’t even get a word in edge-wise. So of course, we weren’t very productive and didn’t meet our deadline.

Jennifer: (Straightforward) Well, hopefully we’ll stick with 10 people on our team. I think a team of this size will be just right. Everyone should be able to play an active role and have his or her ideas heard.

Do you agree with Sarah’s concern for the new team size?

2: How long should a team stay together?

Discuss the importance of team sizes and the life cycle of a team.
