Norms

Team norms are the members’ ideas about what types of behavior are appropriate or inappropriate in the team setting. In addition, norms express the value system of a team and how team members are expected to conduct themselves within this value system.

Norms are usually formed as a team develops. They are rarely enforced by an authority figure, but instead are self-imposed by the team members. Understanding the team norms allows members to feel a part of the team. Therefore, members will usually follow the norms, without enforcement.
