Chapter 9. Team communication > Open communication

Open communication

In team communication, there is always the risk that a team member’s ideas may be disliked or rejected. Due to this risk, some people are apprehensive about sharing their ideas. Others may state their ideas only in vague terms, so they can withdraw the idea with little embarrassment if it is rejected.

When team members withhold their ideas, the team risks overlooking important issues. Without full participation from all members, the team cannot reach its full potential. Therefore, it is important that a team create an environment in which all members can comfortably share their ideas.
