Nonverbal cues

The speaker, listener, or both can give meaning to nonverbal cues. In fact, for a nonverbal cue to have meaning, only one person needs to assign meaning to it. Therefore, listeners or speakers might read nonverbal messages that were never intended. So, it’s important to be aware of the messages that nonverbal cues can send.

Effect on relationships

Relationships among team members are created and expressed through nonverbal cues, which frequently indicate how team members feel about each other. The cues might display respect or disrespect. For example, if a team member walked out of the room before a meeting was officially adjourned, it would show disrespect for the other members.
