Laying the Foundation for Team Success · To be realistic, goals should be clear and specific, attainable, and flexible. · To make changes in the way work is done, members have to be sold on the benefits of those changes. · Just as team goals are more effective when determined by the entire team, so is the design of the job: the processes and methods used to carry out the goals. · In the team concept the process is in the forefront, and individual tasks are components of that process. · Members of successful teams work as colleagues. Each respects the intelligence and capabilities of the other members. · In truly collaborative teams, the team leader is the first among equals--a colleague, not a boss. Coaching is a function of the leader, but also of every team member. 34
