The answer is a loud and clear yes. Self-talk is merely the beginning. Improving what you say to yourself is not the end—more productive action is.

Think of it this way: Self-talk that does not produce productive action is like buying a boat and leaving it tied up at the dock. Productive behavior is the ultimate goal of purposeful self-talk, just as an enjoyable sail on the lake is the ultimate goal of buying a boat.
