Preface

As I’ve talked with friends and customers over the years, they’ve often asked me, “When are you going to write a book on that motivation system you teach?” With a sense of excitement, I can give a resounding, “Now!”

This system generates a special passion for me because it has helped so many people cut stress, add energy, and get the right things done. This system does work, and it is fun, interesting, and practical.

But my biggest challenge in using the system arrived when—after being single most of my life—I married a widower and became a stepmother to three teenagers. I learned the meaning of stress in a new way. A friend had told me that marriage is God’s cure for rigidity and self-centeredness. She was right. At the beginning, I was convinced that my new family needed to make all the improvements. But I learned that my own to-do list needed to include making improvements—particularly in my attitude. I had used this self-talk system for work stresses and accomplishments, and I now also use it in my personal life. And so do thousands of people.
