Chapter 5. Help Stage Tasks > Help Getting Emprowered

Help Getting Emprowered

It is difficult to get results without some level of personal power, called empowerment. This is the degree of authority you hold in making decisions, planning, developing skills, informing, monitoring progress, motivating, rewarding, evaluating, solving problems, and establishing policy You can be both empowering (extending power to others) and empowered (having the authority to act). Empowerment determines how much effect you have in helping yourself and others achieve goals and objectives. Check those areas in which you are currently empowered.

I am Empowered to:

improve or create action plans

make decisions to solve problems

inform others

monitor progress of the entire project or parts of the project

motivate others to act

reward effort and results

do the right things, instead of just doing things right

take responsibility for solving problems

take initiative, rather than waiting for direction

work within quality parameters to achieve organizational results beyond average requirements

improve processes in addition to results

speak up, take risks, and take action
