Follow Up and Learn

If outcomes fail to satisfy expectations, a modest incremental adjustment may suffice. However, remain open to the possibility of a radical transformational change—undoing the original decision and moving in another direction.

If a major change is appropriate, do not be deterred by decision makers who want to protect their pride or reputation. If you suspect excessive attachment to the original plan—by yourself or by other stakeholders—consider involving a person with less investment in specific outcomes, to provide more objectivity.
