Chapter 5. Choose a Decision-Making Strategy

Organizational lore portrays the hero-manager as a decision gunslinger. Faced with the need for a decision, the manager—with one finger on the trigger— quickly moves in to resolve the issue. But, particularly in risky situations with complex issues and multiple stakeholders, unilateral decision-making is not the only, and may not be the best, strategy.

Too often, decision makers jump into the middle of an issue, concern, or problem without pausing to thoughtfully choose an appropriate strategy.
