Improving the Odds and Size of Potential Gains

To increase the potential rewards of a risky decision, you must identify any assumptions you hold that limit your options. Creative alternatives are springboards to better odds and greater gains. What gets in the way of innovative ideas are such limiting assumptions as: ”That’s not how we do things around here” or “We have to look good” or “It’s a great idea, but . . .”

Another method of increasing potential gains is to choose actions that others can support. Consider what would make your decision acceptable to stakeholders whose support you need. How congruent is your action plan with the goals, values, and priorities of others on whom its success depends?
