Try to imagine the marketplace 40 years ago. No copy machines, no overnight mail, and no modems to connect you with suppliers or clients. Managers had much less information to work with. Today’s increase in technology has prompted a parallel increase in information. Information now comes to us in mind-boggling quantities and at split-second speeds. And as we rapidly move from an industrial economy based on manufacturing to a service economy, the flow of information only quickens.

Influencing Information Flow

Yet the problem is not the overflow of information but the distribution of this information throughout an organization. Getting information to the right person at the right time can mean the success or failure of major deals. And it can save enormous amounts of money that would otherwise be spent duplicating efforts. Getting all the information you need also presents new challenges.
