Chapter 8. Unit summary: Preparing to make decisions

You learned about the factors that can influence the outcomes of decisions such as chance, decision implementation, and the decision itself.

You learned that the guidelines for establishing objectives are brainstorming the concerns you want to address, writing succinct objective statements, and evaluating your objectives.

You learned that the guidelines for understanding decision frames are assessing the components of your frames, comparing your frames with those of others, being aware of frame shifts in your environment, and monitoring your emotional reactions. You also learned how to assess whether a frame is appropriate. You learned how to change decision frames, as well as how to analyze and influence the decision frames of others.
Topic D In this topic, you learned about researching decisions. You learned that in order to make good decisions, you need to have a clear assessment of what you know and what you do not know. You learned about the guidelines to improve your decision making abilities and avoid the problems of overconfidence. You also learned how to deal with uncertainty. You learned that the techniques to manage uncertainty are improving your estimating skills, examining the possible causes of failure, and creating a fault tree.
