Plans for future expansion

Bezos's confidence in bringing in new partners is based in part in the enormous self-belief he has in the Amazon strategy, but also is a result of the success garnered in similar moves so far. For example, in November 1999, Amazon launched channels selling home improvement, software, video games and gift ideas. Three months later, the company announced soaring sales from the electronics and software business, and a total of six electronics products were included in Amazon.com's top ten revenue-generating items for all retail stores for the month.

Industry research backs up the Bezos philosophy on customer service. In December 1999, Amazon.com was ranked the No. 1 On-line Electronics Store by Gomez Advisors Inc., a leading provider of on-line research and analysis. In addition, Amazon.com tied for the top overall customer satisfaction rating among on-line electronics retailers in a December 1999 poll conducted by Harris Interactive, a leading internet-based market research and polling firm.
