Chapter 42. the loyalty factor

Whatever your view of the organizational future, key to long-term organizational success is some degree of loyalty. But, according to the fashionable pundits and some research, corporate loyalty is dead. Today's employees are loyal to no-one but themselves.

Typically, research by the outplacement consultancy Sanders and Sidney suggests that current working practices have all but destroyed employee loyalty towards their employers.[] It also highlights a disturbing lack of awareness among companies about the scale of the loss. Over 90 per cent of employees said the loyalty they felt to their employer had decreased, with two-thirds of them reporting that it had "decreased a lot". The strength of feeling was consistent across the board, at all levels in organizations and in all age brackets.
