A Final Comment

Of the vast numbers of people who start high technology companies in the United States every year, only a few are very successful. Most of these founders of new high technology companies end up with failed ventures and no financial returns to show for all of their effort. However, every year a small number of people start truly successful technology companies that often go public and generate tremendous riches for them and most everyone involved with their ventures. While the odds of being very successful are not great, that doesn’t mean that entrepreneurs are powerless to improve their chances of being among the small number of success stories.

This book explained that being a successful entrepreneur is much like being a good professional gambler. If you know the games where the odds are least stacked in favor of the house, and you understand the rules of the game you are playing, you can greatly improve your chances of winning. Following the rules outlined in the book will help you to identify the fertile ground—a truly extraordinary business opportunity that will foster the development of a new high-technology company. While this information will not guarantee your success, it will increase your odds dramatically.
