Relevance—Why Add This Element?

All investors hate to lose their money. One of their techniques for protecting their investment is to migrate toward deals managed by people who know how to win. Sometimes these people say things that could trouble the legal advisor. Sometimes they coerce or cajole in ways that would never look good in writing, including political incorrectness. These people win and they are prepared to do what is necessary to deliver. A separate book can be written on the number of great companies that began their existence doing something quite different from what they do today. The reason is the persistent drive for success by a management team that was not as enamored with the means as they were with their obligation to succeed. After all, the business launch game is about converting a small amount of money into a large amount of money as quickly as possible. Nothing is possible without success, and success is not possible without people driving the enterprise who know success and how to reach it. These are the champions who know how to manipulate the clock, the resources, the playing field, and the play of the game so that success is achieved more times than not. They remember the joy of a championship win and they understand that the rewards cascade over their heads like a piñata bursting with prizes. That is why this element must be added to the mix—it’s critical to success.
