Element 20. Looking Good in the Lobby > Relevance—Why Add This Element?

Relevance—Why Add This Element?

Starting a new venture is no picnic. If you are someone out of the zone of acceptability, the investor often has plenty of opportunities to work with people who do indeed “look good in the lobby.” If life is too short to be miserable, why work with a slob? Now before you bury a great idea because you don’t dress like a collegian, stop. You need to remember that this element simply means you must conform to a zone of acceptability. If you have developed a strain of buckwheat that conquers cancer, you are allowed to look like a farmer or a biophysicist. No problem. But if you expect to maneuver the business through the traps of the investment game, you will need to look like, act like, and work like a winning entrepreneur. This element could be considerably more important than you will want it to be. It is here because it deserves to be honored in launching a new business.
