Score Elevation Tactics

The score for using high-profile persons could be among the easiest to elevate. Someday you can converse about the value of actually selling your product or service, but for now the most important thing is gaining credibility, and fast. Cast a wide net, and keep fishing until you have a big name or two. Note that your compensation for these people might vary, and could be high. One former secretary of state commands a high cash and/or equity compensation for using his name—five percent of equity, but only for the right opportunity. Keep reminding your celebrity that the real value will come later, when this enterprise is up and operational. Consulting contracts, board membership fees, options, and cheap stock are all possible. Weave your story well, allow for reasonable negotiation, sign your deal, and keep moving forward. Sources of high-profile individuals include a well-regarded law firm, friends and family, and your bank. Note also that this could be one of the very few aspects of an association with an accounting firm that could be of value at this early stage—they may have access to a star or two.
