Element 6. Bad Competition > Score Elevation Tactics

Score Elevation Tactics

If you score low here, learn more about your customers’ requirements and their match to the features and benefits of your competitor’s product. Can you make the case that the competitor is somehow failing to serve the requirements of the customer? Is the competitor willing to make the required changes so as to become a devastating “bad” competitor? Will any investor believe you? Can you carve a niche with ample and cost-effective customer service? Do you have some inside track to the customers and or their suppliers or distributors? Is there a legal barrier that you can exploit? Are your “unfair” advantages adequate to trump any advantage held by the competitor? Is there any way to co-opt the competitor into using your product?

Dr. Market’s Observation:

Remember that one of the jobs of the Scorecard is to force you to twist your idea into the maximum possible potential for success. If this means becoming a vendor to what otherwise could be a competitor, you might stand a better chance of succeeding.
