Here are some possible ways to create or exploit new markets that could be “hot.”

  1. Watch for signs of an industry fad, then get into the game, and out of the game, during its steepest climb.

  2. Watch for purchasing trends (the Web, chat rooms, and computer bulletin boards are excellent resources here), find an appropriate product (often available overseas at low cost because of lack of marketing savvy in the U.S.—they may not know enough about the U.S. to drive the price higher), and move quickly to fill as many orders as you can.

  3. Aim your personal vision into the future about 4 to 6 years. Can you forecast any problems? Can you position your product today such that the problem will be inoculated by it? Can you prove it?
