Summation of Case Analysis: Bagelz and Transaction Analysis

The tasks under consideration for a transaction analysis most often fall into these four categories: franchise SDS, outlet operations, advertising and public relations, and product and supply. Following is a categorization of the tasks in the Bagelz case. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but we believe it will help highlight and clarify the process of dissecting a franchise model. We have found this process to help franchisors be explicit about their business models and competitive advantages and to keep franchisees focused on the details. Also, because customer needs evolve, so must your business model. Think about the awesome potential of every franchisee working on the same problems, searching for innovation and better systems and products. The transaction analysis creates the list of priorities whose efficacy as a brand strength should be constantly challenged.

Each item in these lists represents a decision by Bagelz to form its offering in a specific way. It will bake centrally, with excess capacity led by its master baker, Irving Stearns. The total of these tasks is the Bagelz SDS. Its intent is to create a foundation of competitive advantages and the basis of the Bagelz brand.
