Real Estate to Avoid

At the outset of this chapter, I expressed concern regarding the unregulated nature of the real estate, precious metals, and collectibles markets, which sometimes attract salespeople in the way hospitals attract personal injury attorneys. I don't mean to suggest that all real estate salespeople are less than ethical—quite the contrary. They are like any other profession with a mix of both good and bad.

What I'm saying is that there are elements of any business that attract the sleazy sales reps, and in the case of real estate, those areas tend to be limited partnerships and real estate time shares. While I'm not a big advocate of more government intervention, I do believe the government should protect the rights of its citizens, especially when businesses won't police their own representatives. The manner in which time shares and limited partnerships are hawked is a clear indication of a product segment in need of regulatory attention to protect consumer rights.
