Keogh Plans

House Resolution 10 was passed in 1963, creating a new type of retirement plan for self-employed individuals. Named after its sponsor, New York Congressman Eugene Keogh, these plans created the first real opportunity for self-employed individuals to establish their own retirement plan. All of these plans have their nuances, and the Keogh plan has its fair share as well.

To be eligible for a Keogh plan, you must either file a Schedule C with your income taxes, have a subchapter S corporation, have an LLC, or be a partner in a business that files a Schedule K. As you can see, Keoghs are complex, which is why you don't see too many of them around today.
