Other Forms of Insurance

In addition to life insurance and annuities, you should review and assess other forms of risk protection. The topics discussed in the following sections were also covered extensively in Chapter 6.

Health Insurance

Many people have relatively low-cost heath insurance during their working years, but postretirement health insurance can cost a bundle. The two main areas of health insurance coverage are major medical and long-term care (LTC). As you reach retirement, you may want to continue your health coverage with your current provider or you may want to convert to the Social Security Medicare program or a MediGap policy. The cost-effectiveness of these options must be evaluated based on your own personal health care needs.
