Government Bonds

The federal government issues a variety of Treasury bills, bonds, and notes to raise money to fund government operations. These three have certain common elements: They all are guaranteed by the federal government, they cannot be called as corporate bonds can, the income is free from state and local taxes, and you can purchase them for as little as $1,000.
