Displaying Messages in the Status Bar

In Chapter 11, "Interacting with the User," I showed you how to use the Window object's alert() method to display information to the user. The problem with alert boxes is that few people enjoy being pestered by them when they're surfing sites. To avoid the annoyance of a dialog box but still get information to the user, take advantage of the Window object's status property (JavaScript 1.0), which displays text messages in the browser's status bar:

						Window.status = Message
