Understanding Frame References

Although many Web site designers and users dislike frames, you still see them frequently because they're an excellent way to keep navigation buttons, links, and other information handy at all times. If your site uses frames, you can make them easier to handle by using JavaScript to load pages into specific frames, pass data from one frame to another, synchronize the loading of frame pages, and more.

To manipulate frames correctly in your scripts, you need to know how to reference individual frames. To see how it's done, let's begin by examining the typical two-frame structure shown in Listing 20.1.
