Dynamic HTML: Scripting for Control Freaks

It's this sense of control over a page—from the content to the layout to the design—that forms the essential core of what Dynamic HTML (DHTML) is all about. At its most basic, the goal of DHTML is to give coders programmatic control over everything in a Web page document both before and after the page loads. And by everything, I mean everything: the text, the styles, the tags, and even the tag attributes. In an ideal DHTML world, all of these things can be viewed as either objects or properties of objects. And, as you've seen time and again throughout this book, once something can be referenced as an object or property, you can manipulate that something using JavaScript.
