Description

The column group elements allow document authors to create structural divisions within a table. In XHTML 1.0, column group elements immediately follow any optional caption element.

Although the HTML Validation service does not check for a valid number of column group elements, there are rules you must follow. Your count of columns must be precise. For instance, the children of the table element that are column group elements must have their span attributes totaling the same number of columns as are in the table. (The column group elements have default span attributes equal to 1.)
