Chapter 4. String() > Description

Description

Strings are, simply put, everywhere, and not just in JavaScript. A string, in its simplest definition, is an object that can hold one piece of information—and that information can be anything whatsoever.

Interestingly, both Netscape and Internet Explorer take strings and add a lot of nonstandardized methods to them. Most of these methods are identically named and perform the same actions, relating to the HTML implementation of strings. The method's section is thus organized to present standardized ECMAScript methods first, with nonstandardized but agreed-upon methods later.
