Parentheses, Square Brackets, and Curly Braces

Prominent among the aspects of JavaScript syntax where it is easy to introduce inadvertent errors are parentheses, square brackets, and curly braces.

Parentheses ()

You normally see parentheses in two contexts: in enclosing the arguments of a statement or function, and in pre-evaluating one expression as part of another. For example:
