Chapter 12. Working with DHTML

DHTML (Dynamic HTML) was introduced with the 4.0 series of browsers. DHTML, a strong candidate for the most confusingly named technology on the Internet, is really just a combination of HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, and JavaScript. By now, you know what HTML and JavaScript are. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are covered in Chapter 11.

A real impediment to the widespread use of DHTML has been that virtually every browser implements it in different ways (see next page). There are standards for how browsers should work, which can be found at the World Wide Web Consortium's site at http://www.w3.org/.
