Styles with Class

One of the main reasons for using style sheets is to get rid of formatting tags like <P>, <I>, and <BLOCKQUOTE>. In the previous example, the material inside these tags were neither paragraphs nor quotes; the tags were just being used to make the page appear the way we wanted it to appear. The blockquoted material was indented, the <I> tags put the stage directions in italics, and the <P> tags were simply used to add vertical white space. Using CSS, as in Script 11.3, we get rid of these tags and instead define precisely how we want the text to display.
