The Built-in Debugging Aids

The two major browsers, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator, come with some limited features that can help you debug your code. Here's a brief rundown.

Microsoft

Internet Explorer 4 and later for all platforms provides a dialog box that pops up when you run a script with an error. The Macintosh version ( Figure 17.1 ) is a bit more informative than the Windows one ( Figure 17.2 ). As you can see, either version tells you what the problem is, and where in the page it occurs, but doesn't let you do much about it, though the Mac version at least lets you open a window to view the source code.
