Chapter 6. Advanced JavaScript > Project I: Interactive Photo Slideshow

Project I: Interactive Photo Slideshow

Stitch, being the top-notch fashion magazine that it is, always sends reporters and photographers to all of the major fashion shows. Because of the limited space in the print version of the magazine, tons of great photos from the shows go unseen, so the idea is to create a place on the Web site where readers can go to see them. At first, it was thought that a typical photo gallery would be fine, but after kicking around some ideas, it was decided that it would be great if the photos could be displayed as a slideshow. That way, the users could see all of the pictures on one page, and if the slideshow could be made to run automatically, that would be even better.

Now that we've become adept at manipulating images with JavaScript, this should be a walk in the park. The first thing that needs to be done is to get together with one of the designers and work out a layout and figure what features need to be included on the page. After a quick brainstorming session over lunch and a couple of hours noodling around in Photoshop, it looks like we've got a good idea going (see Figure 6-1).
