The Special Symbols and Comments

Just like HTML, XML has some special characters. However, there are only five of these characters in XML, and they're used to dispel confusion for processing applications, not to make little copyright symbols or upside down question marks.

  • & – this displays an ampersand (&)

  • &lt; – this displays a less than sign (<)

  • &gt; – this displays a greater than sign (>)

  • &quot; – this displays a double quote (“)

  • &apos; – this displays a single quote (')
