Chapter 8. Stylesheets

Chapter 8. Stylesheets

IN THIS CHAPTER

  • Stylesheet Overview

  • Classes

  • Positioning Layers

  • Modifying HTML Tags

  • Linking to an External Stylesheet

Stylesheets are beautiful things. We've already seen them in this book, and if you know all about stylesheets, then you can skip this chapter. If you know a little about stylesheets, but aren't really sure how to create them yourself, then you should read this chapter. We'll look at the three major parts of stylesheets: creating classes, positioning layers, and modifying HTML tags. Some folks think stylesheets are too advanced for most browsers or that they should be avoided altogether because poor designers use them to create awful sites. These people should be ignored and possibly shunned—stylesheets are great and will save you tons of time. Every site I create for my clients uses stylesheets, and it's saved me a lot of time. Using them introduces a few new problems, but they solve so many other problems that the trade-off is certainly worth it.
