Chapter 2. Dynamically Changing Table Configurations

Chapter 2. Dynamically Changing Table Configurations

IN THIS CHAPTER

  • Basic Report Making

  • Advanced Table Configuration

I used to work at a Web design firm called Clear Ink, and one of our clients was Pacific Bell. We built an extranet for one for their departments to organize all of their marketing activities. It had a simple, friendly look that they were pleased with, but the thing that really got them excited was the report-making tool. Visually, this was the least interesting part of the site, but man, they drooled over it.[1] We've used this technique for other clients, and they've all been happy with it. That's the focus of this chapter: this cool report-making tool that clients (especially those marketing types) tend to really like. We do this by dynamically changing a table's configuration.

[1] Leon Atkinson gets the credit for creating this code. He's written books on PHP and MySQL that you should buy several copies of. He also sings.
