Chapter 7. Using Components

Chapter 7. Using Components

In This Chapter

  • What Components Are

  • Why Use Components?

  • Creating Components

  • Creating Components in ActionScript

  • Reading Data from Components

  • Manipulating Components

  • Component Styles

Components are simply movie clips with some functionality (that is, ActionScript) attached to them. That's it, really. These special movie clips are so well packaged that they're easy to use and reuse, and Flash treats them differently than normal movie clips. The next few chapters dive deep into what components are, how to use them, and how to create your own. This chapter is the simple one: It shows how to use components in your Flash movies, and how to change how they look.
