Receiving Data

Flash also has the ability to pull data from other pages. This data can be dynamic or static. Your Flash movie can pull data from these pages at any point in your movie, and any object in the movie can pull the data. You can access data using the loadVariables function.

The good news (great news, if you're a back-end programmer) is that the loadVariables function can also send variables to a page. That is, the Flash movie can send data to a script, which can access a database, interact with a Java servlet (or anything), and then send back any relevant data to the Flash movie, which can then update its display to show the user the new, updated information. This is massively important, and we'll go over the details of how it works in this section.
