Chapter 13. Debugging > Other Tools

Other Tools

Flash MX includes other tools, which complement the functionality present in the Debugger.

The trace() Method

Since version 4 of Flash, ActionScript has included a method called trace() that allows you to send text messages to the output window. By placing trace() methods at key points in your code, you can see both the state of properties and the places in your code the Flash player has reached. In Chapter 10, we examined a drop-in replacement for the trace() method, called log(). Our improved version supports all the features of trace(), but includes support for timestamps, which help us understand when a particular block of code has executed.
